Does anyone know where, other than Steinert, I might find grooved cane plates? The Steinert iron one is pretty large and heavy to carry around in and out of the glory for heats.

Thanks,
Mitch

We've used arc welding rods tacked together to make any size you want. Lay them flat, tack weld the tips together, brace the bottom some for the larger ones. The grove size depends on what size welding sticks you choose.

Using a wet saw, you could cut shallow groves on a kiln shelf.

You can buy cast iron griddles (wherever cast iron pans are sold) that have ribs on one side.
