Does anyone know of a company that makes a pendant head that does not use the standard 1 3/4" opening, but instead uses a shade with a smaller opening that allows the guts of the pendant to be inside the shade and have a little cap sit on top ?

Does that question make sense ? I want to make shades with an opening no greater than 3/4".

I find all the lighting websites really confusing.

Are you looking for a pendant set-up with a candelabra socket?

To be more clear, I don't want to use the type of bulb socket that requires a washer on the outside of the socket that compresses the shade into the socket's flange. (The flange being the piece of metal that forms a cap on top of the glass shade that the cord goes through. I'd rather use a socket that allows the shade to simply sit on top and let gravity hold the shade in place.

Sometimes I would take the brass vase cap that usually goes on the outside of the glass or lamp and use it on the inside of the glass, letting the glass resting on it. Much better in spreading the weight and heat out.
