Hello,
I just completed a new powder booth. total of 250 CFM, 120 CFM per sq ft of face...pulls smoke using a test from about 12" in front of it. It was tested with the entire studio ventilation running. Holds 3 of our steam table trays...total cost with blower $120.00

It looks like it will hold three good size briskets as well.

Very cool. Do you vent it into water, filters or just through the roof?
Separators might be helpful so one color doesn't contaminate another.

Brian,
I think it looks great. And solid. Very solid. Care to list some dimensions?

No filtering, net yet anyway...it vents out the same wall that the studio exhaust vents through...better out than in at least. I use those trays all the time, not an issue with contaminating colors. I keep the trays spread apart a bit more than shown.
Dimensions:
24" long, 13" deep, and 15" tall...face opening in 22" long, and 12" tall. Fan rated at 250cfm.
Built of 22 ga galvanized sheet, Riveted. There is a piece of channel on the top to support the fan. I use thin material because it's cheap in the HVAC section of home depot, and I can bend it on my brake with ease.
It's supported by a piece of 3/4" plywood, and has shelves under for additional powders stored in plastic tubs with lids. Everyone is screwed into the studs...next project the furnace, we are building a new door, changing out the crucible and elements, and modifying the insulation. A pipe cooler is also planned during this down time...all pictures coming as completed! Today I'm teaching one of my assistants (Melissa) how to weld and she should (fingers crossed) be the one completing the door modifications.

Hey, I'd buy one. But I'm big on dividers some colors really don't like each other. glad you don't have a problem, probably just my skills.

The real test is when we are back on line in a few weeks and get to making stuff with the booth...if I have colors blowing into other colors, then I'll be looking at dividers for sure.

especially if you want to do Brisket and Banana bread at the same time. (It looks very nice).

Only on a slow day. Obviously you've never had brisket. Oh yes, nice powder booth. I think you'll find three colors in one booth a problem but not three briskets.

well I can resolve the 3 powders easily by having an assistant change them over one at a time instead....I'm going to try this out with small amounts in the tray so as to not contaminate to much if it goes bad....if I Sift powder, I will not use all the trays, this is pretty much for rolling on a gather.
And no, I have never had brisket...I suspect I may be missing something :)

Looks nice. We use bread pans with a notch cut in the end for all our coloring needs. I have had to cut down on powder because of a lack of ventalation.
We did build a color table vent unit that is expanded metal set into a table with air sucked down. I don't have a place to send it right now. It worked in our last shop.
Bill Morris uses stacked up home furnace filters and the air dumps back in the studio. The Pilchuck hot-shop is not sealed up to well. Later, TC :beret:
