A friend of mine sent me that article as well. In my humble opinion, those who create unique glass for niche markets will do well for a while. Until perhaps they start being copied by chinese or mexican glassmakers.

Tom spoke to me about art appreciation. His wife was really the expert (not to leave her out) but we will give Tom the credit for now. I did not get around to all the questions, had to sleep sometime. :D . Anyhow, can you sell art to people who dont know how to appreciate it? Is appreciation sometimes a learnt response?

I don't think you can sell art to people who don't appreciate it on some level. They may not appreciate it on the same level as an expert in the field but if they like what they see that's appreciation isn't it? Therefore if they don't appreciate it on some level they probably won't like it or buy it (unless they are a "collector" looking for pure investment).
And yes I do think appreciation can be taught with education. I had very little appreciation for glass (other than I loved it) before learning what it took to create it. Same with other fields too - I appreciate great food but probably don't have the same level of knowledge (or appreciation) that a chef has for an intricate dish.
Now back to your homework! :)

I think the appreciation begins way down deep in the ancient reptilian/limbic part of the brain....Shiny! good! ....which with a bit of education or interest soon becomes oooooh! big, blue, shiny!
Sorry, couldn't resist the old joke about what it takes for success as a glass artist.
