one fire in a life is too much but my barking dog pheonix woke me up last nite around midnite...i live in the studio now, to find a tremendous glow comming from my furnace. glass was fining at the time. i rush out to find my drain port plug was blown out and 2350 deg glass running out on the floor heading twards the wall and pipeing and trasformer... you get it. pot had cracked and the force of the glass blew out a well pluged port.

i hosed off everything and got the furnase plugged in about 2 hours. cleaned up about 70lbs of snot glass and had a restless sleep... with the furnace off. everything is ok today and i'm useing the 1/2 pot of glass thats left. nice glass too.

moral of the story is..........how well is your drain plugged. i need a vacation. Vic

I have had those catastrophic blowouts from the drain as well. They have fried controllers and solenoid valves. It's amazing how much crap can build up down there. In my case over three hundred pounds. It says something for regular cleaning. It also says something for non combustible floors and walls as well as no live load combustibles as well. Do you need me to order a crucible?

Actually a cat and a drain port have about the same diameter...

And cats give off a high pitch scream when the crucible breaks to warn you. Its a built in alarm system.
