I am planning to retrofit my furnace to use preheated combustion air. I was wondering if anyone who has switched over to electric has usable equipment that they are interested in selling. I'm looking at 150 BTU therm jet and will need gas train things like zero pressure regulators, butterfly valves , a 3/4 " solenoid valve and various other items. Am looking for a good blower suitable for using with a recuperator and this size burner.

One equipment dealer suggested a variable speed blower. Another suggested a one speed blower and the use of butterfly valve to control air which in turn would control gas. Does anyone have experience with both and have positives or negatives about either. The variable speed proponent says it saves electricity the single speed proponent questions the legality of the variable speed system. It does seem like the variable speed system uses fewer valves.

My furnace is 130 lb freestanding crucible. Thanks for your replies.

There is a complete gas train with a thermjet, wetdog control panel, blower and every other damn thing at a customer on mine's in New Orleans. Would you like to have me contact her on your behalf?

Steve that would be appreciated. My e-mail is cecil@mckenzieglass.com my phone is 620-343-2415 I actually prefer the phone. I forgot to mention that I have been using propane and will have to continue to do so . I'm sure I can change orifices on most equipment if it was set up for natural gas. I'm planning to build a recuperator ala John Bingham's in the Hot Glass Information Exchange book. Can't believe its taken me so long to get greener. I would like to go electric but its not in my budget at present and I'm rural so electric rates are 12 cent/kw. Thanks for the information. Cecil

I will try to contact her today and put the two of you in touch.

$.12 kwh is really not that bad, believe it or not.

we pay about that here, and our 100lb unit costs about $400 per month to run...I certain gas would be higher.

Yeah, at that rate my 300lb furnace will run for $6-$700.00 per month.
