Hi All,
We currently need to resupply our silicon carbide grit for both the lap grinder and sandblaster. I did a quick search but without sucess. Can anybody help me find a reasonably priced supplier? We will be needing 80 grit and probably be purchasing 50 to 100 lbs. Thankyou in advance, any and all help is appreciated.

Bob Stefan at HIS Glassworks carries it. Covington Engineering also sells it. I believe Covington just drop ships the grit when you buy from HIS. I don't believe there was a price difference the last time I ordered grit.

Try your local industrial sand blast supplier or industrial abrasive supplier.

I use US Filter. The last price I paid for 100 grit SiC in a fifty pound box was 1.04 per lb, about two months ago. You can buy it in 50's minimum, or in drums up to about 300lbs. They have all grades. I also get my 60 grit from them as well as my graded aluminum oxide powders and cerium. It is all bulk sales.

Salem Dist is big in the grit business.

I agree with Glenn. Salem Distributing in NC is the best I've found. They have it all and a selection of cerium that won't quit.

I love Salem Dist. They do have it all when it comes to grinding and polishing, but there may be other sources closer to home (like by thousands of miles of air freight) that can supply industrial grade SiC.

I just ordered 200 lbs 180grit sica @ $.90/lb.

Salem is expensive which is why I prefer US Filter.
