A prominent shop-tech in the area where this furnace is located was having problems trouble shooting our unit. Many questions were asked and two days worth of phone time was painstakingly undertaken. Everything pointed to a likely simple problem and this person had been asked if any of the connections were loose or bad. After reassuring us that everything was fine, and he knew, because he had extensive electrical knowledge and experience. We finally had to go there and do it ourselves. We found this......

Holy crap! How does that happen??? Someone up here told me to keep checking the frax around the element to make sure that it's packed tightly since they (who will remain unnamed) had trouble with the top burning. Is this how this connection broke?
On a related note...is there a users manual/troubleshooting guide for stadelman furnaces in the making for us newbies?

Yeah that core of silver is actually copper oxide, thats right it heated up so much that it melted the copper back to ore form.

No thats not how the connection broke. It was a combination of an inspectors stupidity and a techs laziness.

If your talking about who I think your talking about, I could see holes to the furnace when they replaced the elements. Plus that particular job has some design changes. which are doing fine now after I remedied the problem.

Yes there will be a manual and a video that Steve and I are putting together right now. It will be very extensive. Steve stars in it with his mustache and sweater vest.

We have so many units out there and none have had the severity of this problem. Yes there is a little of maintenance and up keep with these things, but not that much. IF things are done even half as well as they should, You won't see many problems.

I just can't believe that this guy takes care of multiple studios and told me flat out that this connection was fine. I would hate to see his gas and flame safety.

That's great - maybe I won't have to call Steve at 6am when I think something's broken anymore! Steve....you are very tolerant even at that ungodly hour! :)

As long as you don't confuse the "Omega" sign on the multifunction unit with the "V" on the same unit. It was quite a week in Portland.
