Good catch, David! I should be working, but this is way more fun!
Yeah, funny that you should notice those shoes too, Doug. I was thinking the same thing.

mini paper!

Well that was a blast!
I was impressed that those canes maintained those ridges even through all that work. It looked like white (quite stiff) on white, so do you think that was it?
Did I miss the transfer or was that all done on the blowpipe?
John Teeter
02-27-2008, 03:42 PM
definitely transfered...
he blew it up gently and used an air gun to "paper/marver" to keep the form in control...to keep the cane ridges defined...
at least that is my take on what I saw ;)
loved the "cold" punty move to pull out the pencil neck and mini paper to finish it off...

This completely destroyed my productivity today.
You've got to check this out tomorrow. Watching Lino work is really good fun and an education no matter what level glassblower. I spent some time in Murano with a current master named Afro Celotto who was Lino's main assistant back in the day and while this is the first time I've watched Lino, I see his moves in Afro. The thing I like most about Lino is that he has a very strong artistic style as well as one of the deepest understanding of how to work the material.
You gotta watch tomorrow if you missed it. I may fly up for the day on Fri or Sat.

I got three minutes of video then a black box. I cant figure out if i am doing something wrong, if there are compatibility problems or if thre is a problom on their end and I feel stupid sitting in front of a blank screen at 5 in the morning:confused: ( its 1 p.m. in seattle).
any help greatly appreciated!

"might have your time conversion off a bit?"
Time conversion and spelling are both a little off at this time of the morning. I'll hang out for a little while more to see if they come back from lunch. But from what video i DID get to see before the blank screen came up, they didnt look anywhere near being finished with that piece. Maybe just the cameraman went to lunch!

I saw him working on a piece with 3 or 4 gathers on a pre-made core that had all the color. I hate to say it, but the fun job looks like making the cores...
Anybody see one the Saturnos (http://www.travergallery.com/images/photos/ltag_22867z.jpg) being made yesterday (Sat)? He stuck a bubble onto the bottom of another, then trimmed most of it off, taking about a dozen reheats to do so, the stuck on another before spinning it out. Something about that didn't feel right.
Also for anyone who was present ... What happens to all scrap & trimmings? I've seen the assistants deliberately pick up pieces and disappear off-camera with 'em.

We drove down for the weekend, and were not disappointed. Lino and his team put on a great show. The dinosaurs and saturnos were something to watch.....as for the trimmings, they went into the bucket with the used rods....I was impressed by the sheer scale of things, everything was so much bigger than anything I had seen before...he needed the muscular assistants to gather, reheat, and swing down...and the woman doing the setups for him was a machine, no wasted motion...she had what looked like a bowl of soup at the bench, while her assistant reheated....every one was so casual, it was a treat.

It's not that I am just a daytime cruiser, I gave up sleeping for lent. Actually not true either, most of the time I only sleep about 4 hours.

The TMoG hotshop live cam (http://museumofglass.org/live-glassmaking/watch-the-hot-shop-live/) is up & running (12:25 Sat) and there is now an audio track that I couldn't detect when Lino was working. The audio is the girl who is doing the commentary for the live audience.
