How about Schott's Artista clear and Bullseye opals? I've been told that even though the COE is 4 points off, the viscosity "evens" it out. This is for fusing, not blowing. (And this is research, before testing).

I'm very skeptical.

Any takers on this one?

Ok, now you've done it.... you'll have to read the longest thread ever posted here...but it's also one of the best, so without further adoo...

I knew about that thread, I avoided it back when and was hoping to avoid it now.
I was also hoping for the Cliff's Notes but it looks like I'll have to slog through the original. If you don't hear from me in a couple of weeks, send out the dogs.

Part of making glass is suffering. I'm sure that Brian thinks that. Those of us that worked thru this stuff suffered way more than you will.

Aaaaaaaah grasshopper....You will suffer way more than necessary by not knowing.

OK you dinosaurs....name the TV program I stole that line from.

We'll throw you a bone.....

That opal will also change it's expansion and viscosity with each heating and cooling cycle. Cover that in your testing.

Damn, does that make me a dinosaur? I thought I was just hitting my stride..

More like "When you can identify the batch stone in my hand without a microscope it will be time for you to leave."

I liked the picking up the hibatchi with the forearms to get out part. I keep burning mine, but I never seem to be able to leave...
