Well, we did it. We are on the latest version. Now to work out the kinks...

As a hard nosed FireFox user, I have been unable to log in from FireFox:violin:. IE worked, but it was always a drag to have to go to the second class browser for one site.
This version recognizes the superiority of Firefox, and I feel home again.:dunce:
One thing I didn't see is a way to reduce the text size - it comes through looking a little like a 1989 Apple ][. There is a control for that in FireFox, but it does not respond to View | Text Size... in IE, at least on my machine.
Fix other problems first, if they come up.
Thanks! Now we can :chatter: even better!

Jim,
I assume you're talking about a MAC operating system. I've always been able to log in using Firefox, but I'm on a PC.
I'll look into this and see if anyone else reports this on their support board. I'm not a MAC user so if other members are and they see a fix to Jim's issues, please share.
Glad the new environment is working out better for you!

Board works great using Opera, the browser Firefox is always trying to catch up to. ;)
Thanks Katie!

Can you tell more about what is happening when its not working and if you are on pc or mac and what browser you are using? It will help me dig further. Thanks

Hi,
Upon further review, it turns out that the upload dialog just freaks out when an image is even slightly larger than the max size. I tried uploading what turned out to be an image that was 1 pixel larger than allowed, and the upload pop-up went white. Everything worked perfectly each time when the image dimensions were within limits. I then purposely tried to upload a 100k file and got the error message I expected. Works great.

Good on ya! I promise to stop joking about updating the software (unless you fall behind by more than 5 releases <evil grin>)!!!

Franklin wants to know where the "print thread" function is. I just did it from my browser.

Since the new board - the issue is moot.

When I have clicked the tool to mark a given forum as read, I must then scroll to the bottom to jump to a different forum.
Could that be at the top, in the vicinity of the forum tools dropdown?
Or have I missed an even smoother shortcut?

It may take me some time to find where that particular function is called within all the style sheets but I'll dig around and see if I can find it... and if I can figure out how to move it.

Jim,
You can just hit the blue link in the top left hand corner that will lead you back to the menu, if that is what you are talking about.

Jane -
Yeah, I've been using that. It was just that I missed having all the subscribed forums show when I had marked the one I was in as read.
Katiemoe -
Believe me, it is a very petty thing - and the outstanding thing is how much you did to it - and it all works! I've done just a little site and stand alone programming, and I can appreciate the effort you've expended. And we sit out here thinking that, 'thanks' will be enough. We know it won't - but it's all we have to offer.
Incidentally, on the business of what I could not do in FireFox with the old version of this site: there are several quirky things that only happen to my installation of programs or hardware. This has been true over several machines, under quite a list of competent support/service people.
One suggested, in complete seriousness, was that my house had been built on the burial grounds of an early California tribe. Made as much sense as any other theory. A Google search of early CA maps may be in order.

Hi, anyone else having trouble searching the archives, or did I miss an announcement of some kind? Seems like every word or phrase I try to search on just returns "no results found".

Jeff, that *might* be a config switch. I also got no results. I have them set so no new postings can be added but maybe there's another switch to enable/disable searching on them. I'll look into it.

Jeff,
Good catch on that one. I actually had to get the programmer back in involved for that one. Some programming we forgot as it relates to just those archived boards. We are re-building the search index now and hopefully those areas will be included in search results now.

Hi Katiemoe,
Thanks for the updates. Works quite well. :thumb:
One small issue for me is the number of forum posts that display per page (on the general discussion board). I have tried setting this in my options (tried 20 per page, then 10), but I keep getting the default 50 per page.
If the options won't work, can we set the default to 20 or so? It just would make for a tidier, shorter page.

That's an easy adjustment but before I do that, I'd like to get a sense of if that's the general consensus from people - make that default page shorter??
Let me know and if it seems like that's what most want, I'll make a quick change of that. I remember where that switch was.

A vote with Randy.
It becomes a balance between how often I visit and how many new posts there will be. If the new posts should spill beyond the first page, you have to go check to see how many more there are - if you go to 50 @ a whack, it's a lot of scrolling.
20 - 25 would probably be fine for me - but I have rarely been called 'average user' by anyone.
I didn't check; does this new instar of the board still support graphical display of survey questions? You could make a production out of it and make a survey.

That's an easy adjustment...Quick question - do you happen to know why the options setting doesn't change this (number of posts visible for my account)? Just curious...

I have been so busy enjoying the board that I forgot to say Thanks Katie.
With the last board there was a print function at the bottom of the post and it would print all the text only. Is that still available, if so where?
The file print Pete use prints the page with graphics etc. I can use that but you spoiled me with the last board.

I think I have looked in most reasonable places, icons, and drop down lists. Where is the Start a New Thread "feature", choice, option, whatever?

In the "Thread in Forum" page, the "Forum Tools" has an entry in it called "Post New Thread". I think that is pretty much self-explanatory from there.

Can someone explain this problem to me. I am using firebox. As I read a thread and use the back button on the browser the thread is marked as Hot thread with new posts, you know the envelope is open if I return to the board with a bookmark, threads I viewed will be marked as Hot thread with no new posts. This makes since to me
Now here is the problem if I have been gone for a while when I return the threads that have no new posts are marked as Hot thread with new posts.

It's at the top left hand side of the beginning of each section. It says "NEw Thread"

Kenny,
I saw the choice to track a single user's status and what they've read and not read ... indefinitely, but our boards are pretty active and tracking all that would both slow down the operation of the board and use a lot more bandwidth. It even says in the config, if your boards are more active, it was not an advisable choice to make. The one they did advise for more active boards was one where there was a time limit to its tracking and after that it marks it as different.
In my own use, when I've come back after being away a bit and I use the New Posts link, it knows which posts are recently new and which posts are no longer "new" but ones I've not read yet. Not sure if that is the same thing you are referring to.
But I think it was an overall performance versus convenience kind of thing and I went with what the system recommended I ought to go with on that one. At least for now.

Go up a level, It's above and below the list of threads in each forum.
