I noticed a strange Phenomenon when starting up my furnace. The aging elements are all wired in series but parts of the element are not glowing with the same color as another part. This is viewed at start up only. This means that the resistance of those parts must be higher. I am sure its not that arbitrary but its Interesting how the wires can choose where to increase .
I suspect a failure soon.

parts of the element are not glowing with the same color...I suspect a failure soon.

And I suspect you are right.... Normal thermal gradients and differences in ventilation (corrosive gasses) in areas of your furnace are enough to cause different rates of errosion of the elements. I trust you have replacement parts in hand?

Most people don't see their elements because it's hidden under a shield but I was curious as to if this happens to anyone else.
Thanks Tom Clifton. I have a spare furnace to finish . Working small does have some advantages.
