order cancellations

So I'm hearing privately about show order cancellations. I'm assuming it to be widespread. What says the street?

Shawn Everette 03-18-2020 09:06 AM

I won't really know much til August, but my new venue is now closed to the public. They're large enough to weather almost any storm. My main show in October attendance can be 100k+ a day, so... Either way I'm delaying production.

I just got an order.

The sun will still rise tomorrow.

I am Eben's cremains "guy". ;)

Pete VanderLaan 03-18-2020 01:31 PM

I've started to refer to the virus as "Chinese Takeout"

Shawn Everette 03-18-2020 02:08 PM

Not boomer remover like all the kids?

There's money in cremains, but it's kind of a pain. What's funny is when someone shows up with them for a BYO and don't understand when you tell them no.

That's a new one, haven't run in to that one yet.

Pete VanderLaan 03-18-2020 05:10 PM

Boomer remover. I like it...It has a snappy sort of ring to it. It makes me feel I can participate.

Ron Mynatt 03-18-2020 05:24 PM

Some galleries that I have worked with for years are asking for extended payments. I know that they will pay and they have a better chance to sell it then setting in my shop. One order today but they are an online gallery only.

Steven O'Day 03-18-2020 06:35 PM

Ouch. ha ha Ouch.

Pete VanderLaan 03-19-2020 08:23 AM

My daughter appears to be ill. She works for State in DC. She can't get tested.

Shawn Everette 03-19-2020 09:16 AM

No tests available here either. The wife's museum has several staff that have traveled internationally within the past month, now she's got a sore throat and slight cough, but that's apparently of "no concern". Thanks Anthem.

Just got the email that bullseye may be shutting down production.

Will keep her in our thoughts and prayers.

Pray for your country instead. I absolutely despise that sentiment.

Marty Kremer 03-19-2020 07:25 PM

I think the sentiment was originally valid, and may still be, but it suffers from over- and mis-use. Especially when our legislators send it out to victims of violence instead of doing the hard work of mitigating the causes.
Sort of like "thank you for your service" and "sorry for your loss."
It is formulaic but it's reliable, and I'm assuming, heartfelt. Unlike "well, bless your heart."

Oh no, "well bless your heart" is ALWAYS a heartfelt sentiment. Always.

Eben Horton 03-20-2020 10:19 AM

“Thoughts and prayers” in politician speak translates into - sucks to be you... sorry.

Greg Vriethoff 03-20-2020 11:24 AM

A 53% approval rating for the orange buffoon's response to the pandemic.

This just kicks my misanthropy into high gear. Let the dolphins and swans have the canals back.

Art Freas 03-20-2020 03:27 PM

Evidently it sucks to try and be kind.

Pete VanderLaan 03-20-2020 03:46 PM

Think harder next time.
