Pate de Verre Binder
Anybody have a favorite binder or recipe for pate de verre? I'm going to be trying out that process for the first time soon. Some quick googling turned up methyl cellulose and gum arabic as potentially decent options, they both seem nontoxic, water-soluble, and relatively cheap to get a pound or so to play around with.

I use gum arabic. It's such a staple in the fine arts it's good for me to keep some on hand. A multitude of uses.

The methyl cellulose is the stuff that they're selling as a "pmc" for glass, so I think it's a bit more elastic. Gum arabic is probably going to set up a bit faster. Any of the glass tacs for fusing should be fine. Elmers would also be an option, but only use the white stuff.

I've used the clear Elmers to hold pieces for fusing. Seemed to burn out well. Does the clear stuff not work for patê de verre?

My students have experienced bad results with the "gel", cheap stuff works fine.
