Safe, but inexpensive way to store corrosives?

I'm trying to organize one of the many storage areas in my shop and realized that the two bottles of acids that I have for making aqua regia, which I have stored there in their original cardboard shipping boxes for 2 years since I last used some, have started to oxidize the painted metal shelf they're sitting on. I suppose enough fumes are getting out to do be able to do that. I looked up corrosive storage cabinets, but even the small ones are larger than I need and the prices seem insane. Can I just put these bottles, making sure they stay upright, in a plastic bucket with a lid and a skull-and-crossbones drawn on the side? And would it need any tiny bit of ventilation or no? Thanks in advance.
