Pete VanderLaan is on a distinguished road
I taught at Pilchuck and was expected to teach the marver by Dale's edict. Now, I use newspapers. If I'm working large, which is rare, I line a crucible on the floor with papers and work in it. I do marver and it's a far better way to isolate the lowest part of the piece as near as I can see. The marver is a great tool if it's big enough. I have tons of blocks here, some twenty years old. I certainly don't chuck them but i really only use a block when making a paperweight and I want the shape just so. I don't marver a piece to death. Neither do the Italians.

When I went to China, they fell in love with the marver.
Where are we going and why am I in this basket?
