Davide Fuin

Glass Eye Studio hosts Davide Fuin

Davide Fuin is well known for his classic Italian goblets. His uses of traditional Venetian glass working techniques combined with intricate cane work make his stemware highly collected and special. He is a native of Murano and has dedicated his life to mastering the challenging techniques of goblet making.
He began his work at Murano’s Venini glass factory in 1978. Two years later he began working at Toso Vetri d’ Arte with Carlo Tosi (“Caramea”), considered by many in the field as the most proficient goblet master of the latter half of the 20th century.
1n 1989 Fuin moved to the Elite Glassware studio, where he was one of the top maestros. Ten years later, he focused all of his attention on his own business, D.F. Glassworks, which is recognized as one of the preeminent suppliers of traditional Italian stemware.
Glass Eye Studio is pleased to host him during his time in Seattle. Ruth and I have collected stemware for many years and very much value the opportunity to have such a talented individual visit and work at Glass Eye.

We invite you and a guest to drop in for a look on Saturday, August 7,2010 to see him and his team in action.

Date: August 7, 2010
Time: From 9:00am to 4:00pm, observation
Hamburgers and hot dogs mid day
Where: Glass Eye Studio
600 NW 40th St.
Seattle, WA 98107

I had the pleasure to watch David Fuin at Corning for two different days. He was for lack of a better word smooth.

I would jump at the chance to watch again if I was any where near you.

Davide

Wish you were near us so you could see him in action again. Davide is very good and he has such a nice attitude about his work. When he last visited us we gave his work, inorder of senority, to our team as a holiday gift. It was very fun to see what each teammember chose. I have a good collection of the leftovers, and they too are very special.

The FAQ says I can only share 10 minutes at a time? It's an hour long.

I think youtube will limit you to 10min max. If you want I can give you FTP credentials to my corporate server with unlimited space/bandwidth so you can post it, and post a link here for all to download. you can leave it up indefinately....

I stopped by the Glass eye on Sat. to see Davide Fuin blow.
Dale Leman, Jamie Ennis and Mike from MVGW and crew put on a great demo.
Davide work is outstanding, I just would hate to clean it.
Very nice to see someone of that caliber in such a nice setting.
It was also great to see some old friends. A bit of talk about GAS in Seattle.

Dale- nice job.

Davide was on at museum of glass last night. He is so neat and precise but the best part for me was when he had to dump a goblet.
He puntied from the inside of the cup and its the first time I am actually seeing it done this way but I did see a post somewhere about it so I know it exist. Anyhow, I tried it once and the same thing happened to me. The cup sagged and went off center and the lip touched the punty. In may case I gave up trying to break it loose but he knew that it was useless to try so he just dumped it without a second glance. Why didn't he try top save it? I bet he could have maybe wanted it to be perfect.

All four parts are up now. You guys have inspired me to try to get a few more videos up on youtube where everyone can enjoy them, we'll see what I can come up with.

Here's my user page with a list of videos I've uploaded so far:

What is the trick in making thin objects like goblets? I mean why does it fail so often. To me I struggle with a thin line between soft and workable and stiff and does not move much. Then it just cracks . Just like that. Crazy glass.
