Hi All
I was wondering if you could melt obsidian and then form it like glass, any thoughts?

Short, brutish and gross.

The US Navy looked at it for viewing ports on reactors. My son was looking at it and at petrified wood for blowing. To Pete's comment, no working time and inconsistent expansion, and those are the good points.

When I was working down in North Carolina, we were having an iron pour and one of the glassblowers used a bent-up old blowpipe to gather some of the slag out of the cleanout port in the furnace and try to blow it out. It worked about as well as you'd expect, although the conversation leading up to it was in fine form:

"Hey, slag is basically glass, right?"
"I mean, it's a partially glassy substance, yeah. Why?"
"Don't worry about it, just hold my beer for a minute"

Why not just try to blow the iron while you are at it....
