John Leighton

Just found out yesterday that he passed last December. I've been told it was something sudden. Still don't know the cause of death. Not a major figure in our field, but he did leave a mark. He was my advisor/mentor in grad school, and I also count him as a friend.

John was a dear friend and a good teacher. I had no idea this had happened. For those of you who did not know him, he ran the glass program at Cal State Fullerton and before that ran the program at San Francisco State. He ran them for, like, forever.
Where are we going and why am I in this basket?

So sorry to hear about John. A really nice guy.
My condolences go out to Dee. I hope she sees this thread.
I told John a few years back that I would sign up for a class
when I retired to see if I still could do it... Said the same to
my friend Paul Harrie who is also gone now... Part of the
great glass movement here in SoCal in the 1970's. I remember
cutting transite with a circular saw with Paul when we rebuilt the
CSULB studio one summer. No respirators of course..
