"The Booming World of $100,000 Bongs"

Sure, but you're still going to want a dish to keep your pot in, right? Right!? Replace (DOT) with a dot.

Great documentary on pipemaking on Netflix:

"Degenerate Art: The Art and Culture of Glass Pipes (2011)"

They get rich...lose it all/go to jail...repeat.

I'm afraid our current administration has a "lose it all" agenda so it might be time for our boro friends to brush up on implosion pendents....or make pipes that double as a whistle.

Except that whenever Jeff Sessions opens his mouth about marijuana, nobody listens, not even other republicans. Idiot thinks the whole world is Alabama, I guess. Thank God it's not. I'm in Alabama right now, and I'm counting down the days before I can leave.

Here's a fun tidbit.

Bongs are one of the few things protected from imports.

Yup, you can not import them (legally)

These guys got taken down so hard by the community this week:

https://video.vice.com/en_ca/video/t...pular_videos=1

It has been pretty funny to watch on Facebook and Instagram. They're so full of it you think it's a troll job, but sadly no.

I thought it was a joke, too.(Hey, it's "only" US$9,515.10 if you act now! ) Looks like Tokyo Smoke is opening a place near the Market this Fall. Also looks like they may be planning expansion at a faster than smart pace.

That thing may make for a great bong, but a friend who once partnered in a head shop told me glass outsells everything else. "People want to see what's going on," is how he put it.

Can I cast soft glass downstems and bowls? How can make it glass on glass without drilling a hole and using rubber gaskets? I can charge waaay more for them.

You guys may laugh at me... but I got bills to pay lol...

Max just switch into Boro if you want to do that and save yourself the effort of soft glass.

Your overhead would be next to nothing comparatively. You can't use soft glass for anything that the flame hits.

You would have to be stoned to pay 1000 for a vase with a hole in it....wait a minute...

It depends on if you want to have a career in bong-making.

In that case I'd think making bongs would be a solid career move.

I had one of the bong makers take my color class. He said it was interesting to make something that's illegal and that one spends more time than one would want explaining and dodging certain venues. There's a need for no publicity and a lot of publicity at the same time.

I suppose it's a step up from sex toys

Something is cooking here in FL (other than the usual Meth labs).

The first medical pot dispensary just put up its signs and I don't think that's even officially legal yet.

Also big money being spent om grow facilities right at the moment. Big ones too. A few friends are working on the construction.

We were legendary here locally for growing some of the best up until the black helicopters and infrared detection in the 1980s.

It actually poses an interesting circumstance. This qualifies as drug paraphernalia which has been illegal in the past. Then, weed gets legalized and this is an expensive delivery system. How is it treated now from state to state?

In nc you can buy and sell bongs as long as you do not use the word "bong ". They will literally kick you out of the head shops if you say the word. Papers are fine especially if you keep a pack of tobacco handy. A pipe is just a pipe if it has no screen.

Pot's legal here, so most of the dancing around terms has been dropped. There are a number of free monthly slick magazines widely available in street vending boxes and shops, and the local community college offers a certification to become a Medical Marijuana Consultant, even though technically we don't actually have "medical" as a classification anymore. Technically.

I have a feeling that Sessions, once he sees the unreal amounts of cash powering this industry, will quietly leave legal states alone. Banks are even starting to look favorably on handling the business accounts, and the taxes are through the roof.

Or, he could send a flying squad into the next Hempfest and enforce the Federal law, no pot required:

I'm still getting used to that. On our first trip back after moving to NC we were hopping the train down to Portland to visit my in-laws for the day. Got a huge whiff standing on the platform. Thinking "damn!" then see a guy standing near us with a couple other people, and he's got a joint in his hand. "Oh, right. It's legal here now." It is still, however, not legal to smoke on a train platform, so the guy got chewed-out for that.

Ha I kept just overlooking this thread but it keeps showing up as unread content. Anyway I'm not interested in making bongs I don't think it has much of a high end market here and I already make to many production type items. No way can I make or sell low end pipes like I do small flower vases and artsy glass widgets. I have the skills but no passion for the game. I pass no judgement but for those that think you can make more money making pipes I laugh. I sell art work to everyone but you can only sell pipes to pot smokers. You may reason half America smokes weed but out of that half how many would buy American over import. To each his own but I know what pays my bills. My drive and desire is to make things that are beautiful without a need to be utilitarian. Forget making bongs from the furnace it is a futile game that very few could make profitable. If pipes are your passion flameworking is the process and I can tell you from experience it is not an easy thing to master. Get ready to start all over from the beginning and deal with a different clientele that may not be as loyal or discerning as your average art glass buyer. I appreciate I respect many of these pipers in our glass community and I'm constantly impressed with the ingenuity and creativity. Maybe if I lived in a different place or a different time but I don't.

Hey Dave we have been growing marijuana in alachua county for some time now legally and that dispensary you mentioned is actually open now. Our state reps are not honoring the will of the people and even though they are fighting to stop the train it is moving forward. I personally don't care if you drink or smoke. I like the idea of living in a free country where we have the freedom to make our own choices. If there is no victim then in my mind there can be no crime.

I will open up my scientific shop to the pipers when it does become fully leagal and maybe make a few dollars doing it. Truth is it is the only reason I haven't sold off that part of my business but the idea that I'm going to get rich making pipes myself doesn't add up in my mind. It really comes down to passion if you have it you will be successfull no matter what you do.

So, does all this mean that it's bad form to buy a bong as a present for your favorite pot smoking kid at Christmas? I can see the conversation with the salesperson now.

Monument in Humen, China commemorating the Opium Wars. Maybe one day, Pete, there will be a bong version.
