A dude who came into the shop just offered me a trip to Murano, *strings attached*.

ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Looks like I still can't afford it.... lol

At least GAS is in my neck of the woods next year! Yesssss! Prepare to have a decent tour gide to the local watering holes. St. Pete is a pretty cool town these days. And a decent glass scene, too.

My take wound up being that it was a profoundly expensive cattle call, so I cancelled it. It's a tiny place. If you go. I genuinely hope it is worth it to you. I do think the island is making a remarkable attempt at drawing the larger community in.

Darn, guess I have to cancel my "But I still can't weld" T-Shirt (running and ducking)

Hotel available

Due to a cash shortage, I'll be cancelling my Murano plans. I am cancelling a hotel booking today for:

Locanda Conterie
3.0 out of 5.0
Calle delle Conterie 21, Venice VE 30141

It looks like it would have been a reasonable place, 2 blocks from Museo del Vetro and only E138 per night (booked through expedia).

I hope one of you can use it!

Donchaknow, Trump has been working mighty hard on US-Murano relations? They have some WONDERFUL people on the job. #WINNING #makemuranogreatagain

On a more serious note, seems like Murano needs to reinvent intself or face extinction. Hopefully that happens. Seems like this could be a start. We needed them, now they need us.

I think that Murano is bound by tradition and that in itself is inspiring and will kill it at the same time.

You get a young buck in there who looks at the bride groom topping for a cakw and it doesn't really sell. He says "we have to get relevant." The response is "your great great grandfather made that piece. You dishonor his memory."

Hard to get around. It's a blue collar trade there in a white collar art world , or it's a blue collar trade in a trashpit filled with pumpkins. Take your pit. When I was a kid, in this country there were about 300 of us total. Today? The last reasonable census was 9000. I don't think that's survivable unless you're brilliant.
