why didn't I think of that?

Im sure we have all seen someone do something with glass that makes you smack your head and say " Why didn't I think of that?". This one is for Pete..

OMG Eben I said the same thing when I saw that. It really is a great idea. Especially aesthetically pleasing for glassmakers.

I have one of these in the shop but the color inside is scrap Pete sent me from a silver opal melt from about 8 years ago. It has spider webbing around the crucible but looks a lot like this. Home depot tile saw and 10 min on the lap.

Mine was not a controlled anneal....Not near as good looking. I use to to show people what is going on inside the furnace when I have open houses.

That's Anna Riley. I spoke with her for a while at Corning last year where she was an Artist in Residence doing some studies on decolorizing glass, and she showed me some of the crucibles that she had used for prior melts. They looked just like that.
