Paradise fires

Anyone in contact with David or Sherri Hopper? Paradise seems to have been consumed by the latest fires in CA. I know that David is an occasional contributor here.....

My aunt and uncle have (had) a house in Paradise. I can't get a hold of them.

Looks like hell on earth.

From Shari Hopper

Our last night of 2 weeks in Oaxaca, Mexico was marred by being told Paradise was on fire! Friday morning we flew back. Took until 11:30 pm to roll into Chico and sleep on our friends floor. Sat. spent trying to find out the condition at our place.
Finally heard our house was OK but we were actually able to talk our way into being able to drive up with a Sheriff escort. The whole area is a charred wasteland! Still a few vehicles abandoned alongside the road. A few hot spots of flames. My camera couldn't focus through the smoke. Our house did indeed survive! We even have power from our solar. Water is a problem. The landscaping is toasted! The bad news is our shop building was destroyed! All of David's tools and all my perfume bottle stuff and David's mom's photo albums. Everything I had saved or salvaged from the 2008 fire died.
It is not a place I want to be even if we are allowed. So much work to just bring our place back! We may just become vagabonds!

Sorry about the old news. I was thinking I had seen David Hopper at GAS in 78 and goggled his name and Paradise Paint to confirm my memory and came up with that post. Should have read it more carefully.

Smoke

I meant to send this last week. This is a snapshot of Sacramento from my car on 11/15, which is about 90 miles from Paradise. The highrises are about a quarter mile from this Pic. Most of the schools closed because the air was so toxic.

Makes my lungs ache looking at this. Glad I no longer live in CA.
