John Croucher's class at Penland
Just sent in a deposit for John Croucher's (and his son Luke's) one week workshop at Penland next Spring. Mark Peiser is sposed to be hanging out a bit during this as well. Anyone else considering signing up?

I would love to attend this. However, I have consulted with the Magic 8 Ball and the response was "outlook not so good."

I would love to attend it as well. I have enormous respect for John and have been really fortunate to have been able to call him a friend for close to 20 years now.
It will be interesting to see how the school can set up pots and how much can be done. I would expect it to be more theory than melts unless the school can come up with a bunch of pots, time just crunches along with the two they had when mark taught his last year. When we did the one up here, we had 14 pots running. I sold off both of those color furnaces right after the second class and now I'm down to just three.

OK... might try and take this one. Seems pretty useful... although melting color for me is a bit down the road.

$954 (nice round number) for the one week class, not including the room and board

That seems fair. I'll be really interested in the prospectus. Mine was 1500 bucks and did about 50 melts using five base glasses. It included three testing methodologies as well as calculating expansion. Just doing the base glasses alone takes a good deal of time. Then the batch room work was yet another aspect. Just very different approaches. It was exhausting. It did include a great lunch.

Maybe you could be an unpaid TA for the class?!

I'd imagine so but haven't heard any specifics on that. I just hope they get enough signups so it'll run. So far that anyone's said here anyway, it's Jordan and myself who have registered.

Thanks Scott,
Now with Mark having gotten the Corning Fellowship, I have to wonder if he will be around Penland much in the next year. He always said that the best way to keep studio costs down was to travel.

I'm aware of that. That was written well before Mark got his fellowship. Mark's scheduling may prove difficult. I'm not trying to diss Mark or John. Corning is a long ways for Mark although he seems to like driving the BMW.
