T/C supplier

Where are recommended places to obtain a replacement T/C? Can't get in touch with Grant Edgell for some reason. Omega has too long of a lead time. Any suggestions?

I just googled "Type S thermocouples" and got tons of hits. You might try it.

Looking for type R. I did Google search and am running through the hits. I hoped someone might point out a supplier that didn't need as much lead time as most of the ones I have found so far....less expensive wouldn't hurt either.

I had very good experiences working with Larry Frissell at Precision Measurements in Atlanta, GA. They make the T/C to your spec, so you have just the amount through your furnace wall that you want. When I last ordered from them a year or two ago, their lead time was quite reasonable-- seems like it was a week or two before it shipped.

I thought Grant to still be around. Price is based on length and gauge. Get something finer than a 20 gauge and you'll regret it although the price falls a lot.
By the way, you don't need a type R, S is more than sufficient unless you are going above 2500F regularly. That costs less and all you have to do is to change the input on your controller.

My type "R's are all 18 gauge and I've had them over thirty years. You do have to replace the sheath annually.

I would not use Grant Edgell. They did a repair for me and did not send back the broken platinum. I called several times about it and it was always "we'll look into it" type thing. It seemed really sneaky and shady the way they pulled it off. They made money on the new platinum and stole the platinum I sent them. Make sure you ask for the platinum back if they can't repair it and need to put in new wire. Beforehand.

I now use Eustis Pyrocom in Mukilteo.

Thanks Jordan. Always good to see the fine print. I have actually welded those things back together myself on a patient neutral flame. It ain't rocket science. But, c'mon, change the sheath. Splurge.

David, James is right about Precision Measurements in Atlanta. They are great to work with, quick, friendly, will repair and will match any-other price.
