It an Italian company - Batisti: https://www.batisti.it/

The lathes are very good, we have a couple set up for cutting/grinding & polishing/ceriuming

What kind of costs are involved in the lathes Mark? They look pricey.

Dudley Giberson holds a patent in the US on the auto bench. At one point Essemce tried to introduce it here and it was withdrawn. I don't know if the patent still is in effect.

A rolling chair seems like a really terrible idea at the bench. At least they made it flame proof.

Thanks for the link, those seem like amazing lathes. Iím sure I couldnít afford one.

Iíve seen some variations of that bench in use in Denmark. Chair is put on tracks so it only slides side to side. Not sure I really understand why itís better than a bench.

This is the lathe I'm getting when I win the lotto.

The only advantage I see in the chair is the adjustable height, but if you're spending that kind of money you could just build a custom bench for everyone in the shop.

I only got one new about 15 years ago and I seem to remember it was around £9000 including spindles, stand and shipping...they are proper heavy industrial Italian bits of over engineering that will out last me many times over....they are great for cutting as the continuous oil feed to the bearings mean you can cut all day long with no problems.

The patent Giberson had really only had to do with the pipe on the rails turning, a difficult design involving pipes with gear attached. It never went anywhere.

Watching Jamie after his time in Murano, he wrapped his leg around the leg of the bench creating a tension which helped him . Dale suggested that it helped him make bigger work. It was true. Having a moving chair would defeat almost everything about the bench.

I love mine. Yes, it's expensive, but it's machined so very well. I recommend ordering directly from Jim in Canada. He doesn't have an online presence except for Instagram I think but I could get you his info when you're ready.

That's what I was thinking. There are so many times I've used the bench as a tool other than on the rails.
