Barb's in the process of moving to Canada while struggling to recover her court judgment. That's a pretty full plate.

I figured that collecting the judgement would be harder than getting it.

a lot of the women are like Mary Beth, they could care less about the chemistry and equipment. They just want to make glass and deal with design and presentation.
It appears a lot more of the men are following in this same direction as the women. " Let me squirt it out of the tube and make neat stuff" is their philosophy. No different than the people in IT, none of them want to make or design any of the equipment. It's a different world today than we knew just a few years ago. |

My son is both an excellent machinist as well as a software architect. He does what he wants to. MaryBeth say she doesn't need to know chemistry. She has a chemist.

Since we haven't had a ton of input from the better sex I think it's hard to draw conclusions, but is this going to get chalked up to lack of interest en masse? There does seem to be a contingent that interacts via proxy, guilty, but you would think there be more direct interaction.
Speaking of demographics, age? Holding a steady average, or is learning how to do things going the way of the dino? |

As an IT person, I would love to make my own equipment, I would love to make my own color, unfortunately the Washington Lottery has not cooperated with me. I do cast my own doors, I like doing it, I really want to have the time to learn to weld well, just haven't had the time. I have a design for a swinging yoke for my GH, just need the time. |

Traditionally like glassblowing has been a trade for men and many of the older ladies know that and know to be still. Sorta like be seen and not heard old school types.

Women and new people do not post here because It is impossible to register with a yahoo, hotmail or gmail email account. Am I wrong? That alone is a gigantic barrier

That was a barrier for me for me for a while, and not understanding the user name requirements, but that minimal high point of entry is probably an administrative lifesaver for Pete. Spammers gonna spam.

Eben, I can't tell you how many times I have had massive attempts to join using free email sites. Sometimes 30 an hour. Most have been spammers based on their IP's. I actually check out the applicants. I need to see a viable reason for wanting to be here. When I do, I register.
I doubt that using free servers is causing a vast number of women to not post here is a viable explanation for the differences. The fact is that there are a lot of women on the site. I can track everyone as to what they are looking at. They choose not to post in disproportionate numbers. I was curious as to why. Most of the answers were of course, from men, save Roseanna and I thought she would have something to say about it when I posed the question. True of Pringle as well. Shawn is correct about the take both Katie and I have on this. I can register gmail. I just frequently don't. ..and our criterion for registering that seems so formidable is using your real name and have an association with glass. How hard is that?

I am so used to being the only or one of very few females in a group that it would never occur to me not to participate anywhere. Been a commercial fisherman, captain, charter mate for decades and still do marine finish work so....... I do however have ZERO tolerance for mansplaining and have never noticed that here. Pretty equal opportunity snark here.

Eben, Rosanna, I have a 38’ dutch steel trawler, offshore license good for 100 meter ship, radar and radio license, and european canal license- Pete eludes to boats when he has sold enough pots, maybe we could start a sub web chat here, discussing getting seeds out of lacquers?
Applying all our Murphys Law in glass experience to boating? |
