Good to know that some of us still use the antiques and they work.
I doubt there are few here that know how to replace the points in a distributor and know what a "feeler" gauge is all about. My first controller was a 24 hour sign control that was connected with wire or string to a potentiometer that slowly brought the temps down to room temp and then shut off. I copied that from the old Labino steel barrel annealers. |

People always complain about kids being entitled and that they got participation trophies for being AVERAGE. My response is who bought those trophies? I've never seen a 10 year old buy himself a participation trophy. If (and it's a big if) there is an issue with kids "these days" it is the adults that raised thems FAULT

[quote=Pete VanderLaan;150284]The early group of teachers were really renaissance men in the sense that they had to do it all. Building a glass shop is an infra structue challenge now. It wasn't so bad in 1970. We built these furnaces from crystolite brick and they failed after one year, maybe a bit more. At the time, 68-69 I recall Dudley doing some color work .....
This was very interesting, Pete the whole peice |

I used to crab at my kids for moving too slowly and for being lazy. My dad used to complain how lazy and slow I was. My grandfather complained that my father was slow and lazy.
I imagine in my great grandfather's day everyone ran around at the speed of light and plowed a field in an hour, every hour... Socrates (469–399 B.C.) Quote:

A few months ago I dropped the engine in my 1971 vw bus and installed a new gas tank. I think I got into the old school crowd just as the gates closed. So many people just a little younger than me don’t even know how to drive a stick shift.

I have taken youth groups on disaster rebuilds and ski trips. Notable observations.
1) Not knowing how to use a manual can opener. 2) It being a disaster to not have signal on their phones 3) Wondering what rural people do without malls 4) Not knowing that calling for the beater when ice cream is being made and licking off the beater is a joyus thing. 5) Not knowing how awesome home made ice cream is. Especially chocolate custard ice cream. |
