I will also add that the only way (just my opinion) that one can figure out how to make a solo studio work is to come up with a singular unique piece and then completely turn off your brain for the next 20 years and just keep making the same thing over and over.

I am unable to do this. It's the reason I never get anything done.

It's two distinct methodologies. One is factory bases. One isn't . One seems to say if hands touched it while it went by, it's special, one doesn't. Essemce was based on this kind of tooling. Look at the video.

Very few people are able to do this completely solo, of if they are, there’s some serious family money to pad the losses.

I do it today for the same reasons I did it in 68. I prefer it. For me, I acknowledge the business aspect of it. I continue to celebrate the art despite it.

If it's money you want, it's really far easier to get it elsewhere.

I see it this way,
There were 1000's of feet applied to stemware from 1900 to 1960 and there were all made with those 2 pieces of cherry wood put together with a strap. The old guys in WV and all thru the Midwest were able to do production of feet on multiple items with them all looking exactly the same.
Technology has come along and tried to replace craftsmanship and talent and in most instances it has but with it has come a lot of other factors that no one saw coming.

W.va was really pre carbon availability. Shorty sent me mine in 76 and it was quite the thing at that time. If you compared the tooling for W.Va to the Essemce stuff, it was light years different. I think W.Va was far closer to the Carder/Tiffany era than to Sweden.
