Well they sold for $838 from Jamesconroythefourth in Glenside, Pennsylvania. A steal!

Did look like very nice jacks, I could believe they are real. I have a pair and I just love the springiness and the shape of the blades. My Carlos are just a little different but I like them a lot too.

They were definitely real. I have used a pair with the exact stamp.

Someone is selling a med and large pair of Dinos on eBay right now for $800 as the opening bid with a $1800 'buy it now'. Look a bit rusty but the blades don't look worn.

I like to watch the spectacle of Dinos selling for bank.

I like the whole section at the Corning museum of pieces only made with Dino Jacks.

It's my policy to never buy or sell on ebay from/to anyone that doesn't have a certain amount (approx. 10) of positive feedback during a certain time frame; unless I know who it is, or someone can/will vouch for them.

Does anyone know who the seller is? I know I can message them, but there's no way I'm going after these.

I only say all of this because $1,800 is a lot of money for me right now. Maybe not for others here.

Just sayin'.

He mentions that they're really stiff--that reads like "unusable". I had Dino tweezers that I thought were the same--too stiff for me to use. They'd only be good for picking open big bubbles and I don't do much of that. I sold them.

I'm not sure what super-stiff jacks are good for. I have a hard time feeling the glass if I'm working super hard to squeeze the jacks. So I like jacks on the softer side with good lateral rigidity so they stay aligned. (I find Marukos and some Dinos generally work best for me.)

The pricing on Dino Tedeschi tools is based solely on their rarity at this point, as in no more will be made.

I don't know what all the fuss is about. I have 3 or more Dinos and I'll let them go for $ 48.00 ea.

I was using my Dino’s today. They are so damn smooth on the glass. Then I used my other pair of Dino’s. Even smoother. Hehehe

I was just wondering lately if we have any knowledge of the tool makers in and around Murano who were making tools before the more recent ones we have all heard of (the Donás, Dino, and Arturo Gaio). Surely there is a long history there, and I would assume their tools would have most likely never, or rarely left Murano. Would they have even stamped their logo on the tools they made? Does anyone ever encounter these tools in old junk shops in Venice? Just curious and thinking out loud..

That would be interesting to learn of. I wonder if the various factories made their own tools like fenton, stuben and others. I'm told that in Murano, Dinos are pretty uncommon but they don't hold the same fascination or value as they do in the US. Perhaps we find them exotic and they just see them as old local tools? Dunno.

There's a set of Dino tools currently on eBay that someone is starting at $6k. It's been re-listed a few times with no bids. I think it's *way* above market--either the guy is nuts or he's hoping some trust fund kid or 1% artist goes for it.

I signed up for the GAS conf this morning and was wondering how much Roberto is furiously making tools for the inevitable invasion of glassblowers in May.

Nobody fetishizes stuff like the US. Wine, coffee, tools, covfefe, you name it.

Years ago when I spent some time in Pino's shop and he said he had all his tools made by his "mechanic". I was told everyone there had there own mechanic. I bet there is a ton of tool makers on that island.

There is. I had coffee with one of them one day. I didn’t speak a lick of Italian and vise versa. His shot was the size of a one car garage.

When I visited Dino's house many moons ago, all he had was a small garage behind his house. He did supply some of the factories because he got me in to Venini when they did not allow outsiders in (and got a private tour with one of the Venini daughters). He did not have a high volume shop..... I actually spent time looking for a poster of glassblowers while I was there and could not find one. They were pretty much working-class people who had a talent that others did not, no glorification then....

I spent some time at Dino's passing an English/Italian dictionary across the kitchen table. My girlfriend at the time was fluent in French, so that helped a little too

I do hope to see Dino Rosin, who visited my trainyard facility so long ago with Kevin Schluker so may years back. He makes the best calcedonia I've ever seen. I doubt he'll remember me but I'd still like to kiss that ring.
Tools?
Really? How about developing basic skills with glasses that work instead of the american bullshit cullet you buy now? Glasses, now those I can indeed make.

When I landed in Seattle in 1999 I applied for Dino's class at Pilchuck. Didn't get in. I was pretty naive then (still am in some ways).

When I was in grad school a guy joined the program shortly after I got there. He had gone to Chico State, and had worked at Orient & Flume for a while. He showed some of us his pair of jacks he had made. Said it was something they made everyone do that worked there. They were round-bladed ones. Something about the fact that they use that soft Morretti stuff. That's all I know.
