Fiber glass yarn

I am helping the daughter of a friend who recently passed away clean out her momís studio. She was a glass casting artist (Lucartha Kohler http://http://www.legacy.com/obituar...?pid=187591999. She moved here about 6 years ago from PA to live closer to her daughter since she was getting older. There is stuff there from the 70ís! One of the things I found and donít quite know what to do with is a large box of fiberglass yarn. Itís a big coil in a box. I am guessing she used it to strengthen molds?

I use something like that for wicks for oil lamps that I make .The nice thing about it is it won't burn up like cotton wick does .It will only pull the oil up about 5 " so you can't use it for tall oil lamps.

Pringle A long time ago, I played with "dying" glass yarn with colored glass powders and weaving them into sheets, then fusing and slumping. Look very interesting and different. Wish I had taken some photos. Charles

Lucarthaís other daughter told me today that she did exactly that. She had some pictures! Didnít know fiberglass would hold eye. Very interesting. Found some really old bronze, copper and gold metal powders today. Itís truly a treasure hunt cleaning out her studio.
