We did the IFB thing that Eben alluded to when I was in grad school. Chalk dust is probably safer to breathe.

I attended this workshop, the mysterious blue powder is most definitely chalk. They used the same brick and chalk for a number of cups that were made through the week.
The finished bowl was actually quite a nice piece, I believe Dante kept it to keep chips in.

any hardware store stocks it. It's just snap line marking chalk for construction

I did not do that. Busy Busy Busy. Now I've read it and it must be utterly opaque to the world at large. Well Done. I continue to make doughnit punties but none of it matters for me since I grind and polish all of it
