There are substantial differences in price for cerium based on quality. A decent cerium will run you about $36.00 a lb or more. That's down a bit from two years back. High quality used as a PMD photo mask will likely cost more.

Cheap ceriums like lensmax will indeed cost you less but they also don't really polish well at all. They are made for polishing machines as a slurry. What you are polishing matters as well. Dave Hilty in Michigan bought a 5KG bag of the Bamboo brand I brought back from China. I don't know if he used it all but is no longer making glass. That stuff is the best cerium I've ever used.

Some of the stone lapidary suppliers have great deals on high quality Super Cerium. My friend has gotten it for me at both the Denver and Tuscon gem shows at just about $20 per pound. That community might be a good place to start.

The ones known as PMD's are the best, runaway with it. It stands for photo mask division and is used for computer boards etc. It's a lot like heroine really in how much the first pound gets "cut". As with other rare earths, it can come in a variety of concentrations given the inner electron ring capacity to dump electrons, the qualifying property of the Lanthanide group.

I'd just say don't buy a whole lot of it initially. See if it works for you. Once you're up to $1500 dollar pails, you're in the deep end of the swimming pool. I would sell the panda brand but I don't know if I'll ever get more.

That Bamboo brand is amazing! I will take every chance I get to say it.

I mean, seriously 1/3 the time. If given the chance I would buy 5 more bags from Pete and I would likely never need to buy it again for the rest of my life.
