S8 Schott Encasement blanks

Can anybody give me a value for approx, 100ea 300g and 400g Schott S8 blanks manufactured 1995 still in original crates. Asking for a friend Thanks

I used to pay Steve Weinberg about $6.00 lb for such stuff.

The last production run of S8 gobs occurred five years ago. Upon conclusion of the run, the factory burned, and the tanks were removed, leaving only crucible melting in Duryea, PA. Consequently, it is doubtful SCHOTT will ever melt the glass again - the demand is just not high enough. The glass was priced around $22 per pound.

..and David would certainly know. So, it really becomes a question of what the market will bear.

That's true of lots of Schott products. I still have Neodymium blanks that were made back in the early 1990's which I doubt will ever be produced again. They came out of a warehouse stash in the 2000's as I recall I bought from David.

I have no idea what the production of F2 glasses is currently either. All nice stuff.

There is a huge community of paperweight artists in groups on facebook that would all be extremely interested in that glass. Right now that might be the best place to sell it.

I sold some for about $25-30 each last year. You might even get more. There was an artist in Baltimore that was willing to buy a bunch, but I can't recall his name at present, it was a Russian name.

Of course that was back when Julie would load my pickup truck until the leaf springs were flat for $300 dollars.
