slide on mouthpiece

This from Steinert actually looks quite useful for those of you doing classes.

Needs an internal one-way valve, like a heart, or a duck call (which might be fun even without a pandemic).

What isn't addressed is how the virus spreads. Since so many people are asymptomatic yet can transmit the disease is the single most disquieting part. Currently, testing is showing how many of those people there are out there and to suggest that slowing testing would somehow make things better is just plain dumb.

In the '80's, we had people who were HIV positive but never developed full blown AIDS. Transmission was far more invasive than this virus. You had to go have sex to get HIV.. This? It's still not clear although there's not a health care pro that doesn't agree that it's far easier to get it indoors.

Since moisture and air travel up the pipe ( we know that), it doesn't seem to me that using this tool would make me sleep any better at night. Further, just hanging around strangers or other workers is just not a smart move.

We may get through this, we may do it with enormous loss of life due to the politics, not the way to avoid getting it. I no longer have to make a living in Glass and I'm sympathetic to anyone who does have to. I would say that if you don't change your business model away from other human contact, you're just whistling by the graveyard.

Otherwise, the same dopey stuff. Wash your hands, maintain a distance, wear a mask. We'll be at 200,000 dead really soon. Don't be that guy.

I've been asked by students what the protocol will be. I can't specifically say since I no longer pull the strings, but my go to answer is that every real glassblower owns their own pipes. It's hit or miss which ones think they can afford it.

Exactly, the pipe would need sterilization as well.

Shawn has it right: A real craftsman owns their own tools, and keeps an eye on them. Pipes and handtools.

For most of you, your lives are before you. Behave like that has value. This is a devastating illness and is poorly understood. It's not just lungs.

I thought all Steinert pipes had the Delrin mouth pieces inserted in the tube with a press fit and oring. Twist it off polish the tube and refit. It should be able to be removed, replaced and disinfected. I have replaced plenty of mine over the years from squirrels to the help setting it into the pipe warmer backwards. I prefer the red automotive heater hose for grips personal preface diy same for my punties. I have a couple pipes that the mouth piece comes out with the blow hose. Not ideal but it is what made me think this is a bit redundant. Iím sure John press fits them in so depending on tolerances your mileage may very.

A lot of what is being missed are the cardiovascular issues, that's really what's behind most of the "side effects." I think that because those are so varied are why there's not as much attention paid in the media, the pulmonary problems have a more common case base. I think the whole blood type thing may start changing that. Thank god I'm -O.

Try to consider who you will likely infect if you go home. Is it Mom? Gramps?
I 'm quite sure it will kill me with co-morbid issues. Our county now has 52 cases. It had 29 in May and I do think our governor has done a good job, but now we're into camping season and the town is filling with maskless white people in shorts. The neighboring town has a regular population of 2700 and swells to 58,000 when the summer camps open.

It ain't the flu.

Camping seems to be in full swing around here, sans masks. Restaurants seem to be about the only thing that people are restraining on, most everything else is fairly back to the norm. The traffic patterns are evidence of that. Our county is still once of the hot spot for the state, to be unexpected with the capitol and population density. We're not a tourist destination and the fallout from George Floyd's killing was not as amplified as other places, so I think that has a part to play in not seeing a meteoric rise after reopening that some are.

It certainly is not the flu, but I see an awful lot of the target demographic not taking heed. The death toll so far has not outweighed people's tolerance for patience, and media is moving on with another crisis. A lot more people are starting to move towards the damned if you do damned if you don't philosophy.

Well, I take note that Trump was indeed true to his word and the feds are no longer going to fund any testing at the local level as of June 30th.

If you don't take a pregnancy test, you're not pregnant, right?

I mean, it'd be pretty hard for me to get pregnant. Might be a first...

Do I really have to produce another metaphor?

If they don't declare you dead, are you really dead?

Seven sites in Texas will no longer get federal cash for testing. Good thing there's no problems in Texas.

I mean, I have heard of men testing positive for pregnancy and it leading to an early prostate cancer diagnosis.
