Connecting thermocoupler
How do you connect these. A 12 g thermocoupler
And a 20g wire. I am thinking about a porcelain twist on connector. What are your thoughts? Last edited by Franklin Sankar; 11-04-2019 at 06:41 PM. |

I always used a ceramic terminal block, Franklin. I think they were thermocouple specific and didn't cost very much. They have them on amazon for $6 us. Hope that helps.

You could also use a copper split nut

Be sure to get the polarity of the compensating cable the right way round. The cables have specific alloys for the + and - with specific resistance. If you get the cable the wrong way round your temp readings will differ.
There are numerous charts - all colour coded for the different types of cable, and interestingly, none of them yet fit to an international standard so you'll have to match what you have with the appropriate table. |

![]() I just noticed the block we have are not thermocouple specific. So I am back to Eben coper lug split bolt. I ordered a block also. Just have to sit back and wait.
Never got so much trouble connecting the thermocouple . It’s as if the controller lost some of its sensitivity. It all started when I found the nice doggie sitting on the annealer. Franklin |

I got this to work . At least for a while.ceramic connectors so no contamination with other metals impacting on the joint.

I would think that trying to connect a 20 gauge to a 12 gauge wire in a split bolt is fraught with potential issues. The block connector in my mind would be better.
