Flooding in Venice

Have any of you been seeing footage of people's shops? It's crazy. I've been seeing multiple videos on social media of flooded studios. It weird seeing a hot furnace with water almost up to the sill and steam pouring out from all around.

Really sad.

I have been following Fabiano Amadi. The videos are heart-breaking.... it looks like the beginning of the end of a tradition that dates back to the 13th Century..... Fabiano did declare that he will be back through all of the miseries.

Im watching several friends go through this. Certainly heartbreaking but the beginning of the end? I think not. Its happened many times over the years and those traditions will continue.

Yes, Larry, it has happened in the past. The last one of this magnitude was over fifty years ago. Climate change will increase the frequency of these, and they will need to adapt. But how? As sea level continues to rise how do you keep the water out? You can't jack up the foundation on a whole city.

These are just rhetorical questions.

Problem. Many of the foundations in Venice are rather pourous. There were even articles about it this week. Structurally, Venice is threatened.

Same thing's been going on with the Taj Mahal for years. In addition to pollution issues the foundation has been sinking (next to a river).
