The problem with the "only hire folks that can lift 50lbs" analogy is that with repetitive motion injuries the only way to know that someone can't hack it is to prove it by watching them get hurt. Thus the need to reengineer the processes rather than just hire certain folks.

There are countless people who could be described as "in peak physical condition" with stories of herniated disks. Not all bodies are made alike. Congenital conditions are a real thing.

You can still get candy cigarettes and bubble gum cigars from Amazon, eBay, or those brick-and-morter candy shops like Rocket Fizz. I don't think any of the major candy companies make them, though.

Oh, and lest we forget...

I understand that ultimately if you ask someone to do a job it is your responsibility to create a safe environment and show them a safe way to create that work. This I think we all agree on.

There's an Ace around me that still sells them if you need me to pick you up a pack

I was young and indestructible once, 6 hour production shifts at a "residency" changed that. Pinched nerves will put you in a world of hurt, and can be really hard to fix.

Think of any fire department. There's nothing wrong with being a pump ( engine) operator. I did the bulk of my work with that prior to OSHA regs. Today, I'm close to deaf. If I had hearing protection things might be different. Now it's part of the gear to wear protection.

Then think of Coal miners.

This is fairly analogous to what Mr. Patchen has brought up.
There’s always room for improvement.

I still can't help laughing at the irony of all those coal execs. standing around Drumph smiling as he signs that order to "help" the industry. The guy on the left in the pic. is wearing oxygen.

What escapes me on this work related injury is why it isn't a Workers Compensation issue. It should be. In anyother trade or workplace it would be a workers comp claim. Then the workers comp would come down on Glass Babby to make the changes and hit them with a higher premium. I don't think that there's any loophole by which Glass Babby can get around having workers compensation, it is Federally mandated.

I agree if the injury is listed in any complaint , particularly as repetitive or backed with a medical evaluation. David's assertion that they get fired if they complain is substantive as well.

I haven't been associated with glassy baby for years now but I know for a fact that everything that was opened as a claim went through worker's comp. There's a lot of speculation going on on this thread but that one is pretty silly.
