Dr. Evermore's Forevertron!!!!

His work is fantastic! I plan on stopping in to see him on my way to Madison on Friday. For those of you who don't know him Dr. Evermore is the alter ego of Tom Every who's in his 70's now. He was a "scrapper" by trade. He tore down most of the American industrial manufacturing plants through out the southern Great Lakes for their scrap metals and Junk. But his passion in life was sculpture... He'd save all the cool shit that he come across and made stuff out of it. The chairs around the fire pit on his patio are the operators chairs from Gantry Cranes, with all the levers, some with foot pedals as well. Industrial Star Trek! His sculpture garden occupies at least 20 Acres. He had a stroke two years ago and has been partially paralyzed. He's a treasure! He traded me one of his "flying fish" I have it above the hood in my studio.

Not quite Pete.

Nice Eben. Who wants to blow glass when there's a sailboat on the dock?

It's much better when it's in the water Jordan.

No, no Eben you got it wrong. Pete is really funny I promise. The boat Rahman is talking about is a 505. I said I wasn't going to go up this weekend....

Just don't break it before I get a chance to sail it again with you.

I am pretty suspicious that is going to need a lot more ventilation if those holes are for fans Lawrence. It sure is clean looking!

yes the holes are for 3- 5700cfm fans (the third one is a pusher, up above the mezz). my math says this will turn over every 4.5 +/- minutes, (or was it 4.5 hrs?..hmmm) you guys see anything else that might be a problem??

3 phase is available here but i can't justify the initial cost. I haven't run anything yet so if anyone here can convince me i'm screwin up not running three phase...please speak up!... (i have scheduled a 400amp service)

fresh air changes anywhere over once every two minutes will make a fairly warm to hot studio assuming an 18 inch or larger gloryhole and furnace unless the hood is massively insulated, which I now completely believe in.

In this last NE heatwave, It was 95 outside. With my gloryhole running it was reading 91 in the center of the main room since the slab was cool. It was obviously hotter in front of the gloryhole. I built that hood out of steel studs, had no less than six inches of fiberglass insulation in the walls and roof, plus a dead air space and covered the whole thing with two layers of sheetrock. I have to heat the room in the winter even after pulling the gloryhole out from under the hood for the cold season. I actually think hoods work better when they are smaller, not larger since you can really focus on the exhaust and makeup air. In a big hood, things get kind of vague. My current hood is a touch too small, making lighting the gloryhole a pain but otherwise it really functions well. As I read the photo, the vent holes are in the back of the hood. I see only two. While 10,000 CFM is a lot of CFM, four minutes is too long, especially if you are planning to do anything toxic in there. Just my opinion. .

But it sure is pretty.

thanks Eben, I've been pretty excited about this deal for some time.

Pete, I may have to build some kind of hood later... natural lighting is also a major concern for me...hopefully things will work out.

If you have the opportunity to have 3 Phase, DO IT! You will be glad you did.
It will allow you much more flexibility as you aquire more equipment.
It is a much more efficient power for motors and large equipment .

Oh ya, and that shop is Really NICE! (and so is the house in the background...)
