I spent a lot of time on this with an hour meter when I was making the cut forms. Ultimately, I found that 0- 3/4 was the most efficient pumice, 1.0 being too coarse and 0- 1/2, while finer was too time consuming.

Ideally, having the 0- 3/4 followed by "0 1/2 " gave a very nice surface for cerium prep.
Cerium has strange stages. Initially, a lot of material comes off and leaves what I would call "Orange Peel". If one persisted, that layer went away and showed a brilliant polish. I still do that with any face that is exposed to view but not on bases of pieces.
