The SDS for the original GLASMA formula 705 does include zinc. The formula for alumina crucibles does not (705E). Still waiting to hear from Bill who is waiting to hear from GLASMA about other possible batches.
Don't you kind of feel like you lose your compass when you mix your own clear. If you use a batched version, at least you know where it sits and can adjust your colors around that. When you mix your own a number of variables are introduced which could cause drift in the expansion of your clear. When problems arise, how do you know it's your color or some variability in your clear? I guess you can mix large batches at once or create cullet from it to "freeze" the formula. Seems like your complication factor would double, at least. |

Use a decent scale and mixer. Care is a handy commodity. You can be as open with the supply houses as you choose to be. Cristalica is entering the supply phase I referred to a few months back. Watch how that plays out in terms of QC. I just keep mixing my own or I have SP mix it for me in tonnage.

Are they mixing your unoxidized formula also? Too bad we can't figure out a way for you to have SP mix your batch in tonnage, you test it and take what you want and then they ship it to the rest of us for a nice profit.
But they didn't want to deal with that as I recall. |

That demand doesn't exist. You are a minority player dealing in nuisance volumes and that's the reality. SP mixes at least 20 tons per day and mixing mine requires cleaning the mixer. That's not hard to figure out.
Meanwhile you keep publishing links to people who have simply taken my formulation in specific glasses. If you think that makes me pleased., you really don't get it at all.

I had no idea who was making the Iron Maiden glass or where they got the formula. Seems to me that you have made no attempt to keep that formula secret though. I sense that you are bitter with Josh Simpson for taking credit for it and wanted to make it clear who really did.
Also seems to me like I'm just the sort of person you should be courting rather than pushing away. I have a real interest in making my own color and even tried very hard to find a way to see money get back to you for using your formulas. I'm sorry you have been screwed over so many times, but I have no intention in ever doing that. I really respect your career and expertise. The amount and depth of information you have bestowed on the glass community here is staggering. I don't take crap or insults though and if this is the way its going to be I'll be on my way like so many before me. |

when you get 100 lbs mixed and I get .06 lb, I'm not buying tickets on the QE2 to sail away. As to Simpson, I was paid to do that work and that work should have attribution that's all. As to Iron Maiden, that's an ethics issue for Doug to wrestle with that doesn't keep him up at night. You were quite unwilling to say where you got the internal run sheets for my formulas. I didn't supply them to you.

Are you the reason Jim won't return my emails or phone calls?

Don't go getting paranoid. No is the answer to that but the question is indeed offensive.
I don't have much interest in that particular project. Asking someone to mix you 100 lbs of anything is asking a lot in my opinion and Jim likely has other things to do that have higher priorities. The notion of my making six dollars in royalties does not keep my heart beating fast . Based in this I'm not inclined to go forward with further stuff. You're rapidly developing a very short leash with me.
