Hang on , this is not difficult. There is like 4 components to a TC . The protective tube. That Ive never had break down. The wires that can be welded with a gas welder. The ceramic seperators around the wires, and the junction part. You dont need to send it anywhere for fixing, you can do it on your kitchen table

I should modify the comment on tubes. Ive never had them disolved by batch. I ve had them break when getting stuck in glass haze and break when turning off the furnace due to shrinking

well, they do dissolve, perhaps not easily but I've seen it. I agree they're repairable I've done that too. Probably the most compelling reason to keep them slightly back in the wall is not having the outer tube fuse to the wall when it is glassy on the outside.

I always remove my thermocouple very slowly and carefully just before i shut her down… never had one break and I have been using the same one for 22 years.

That's a very good idea.

Maybe tubes dissolves when melting colors? Certainly not batch. Maybe Ive broken one, and that would be the least of problems anyway

It depends on whether they are made of alumina, or mullite I suspect. The glaze that builds on them is important. My fluorine stuff really challenged any firmly held rules. The entire inside of the furnace looked like melted ice cream.
